step 1: get a decent picture. all the photoshop in the world won't save your ass if you have a shitty picture. this one is for feature in upcoming S3. photo credits go to stunna ben.

step 2:this is probably the most pain in the ass, crappy part of the whole process. cut the car out. basically just outline the car and copy/cut to the selection to a new layer. i use the polygon lasso with a 1px feather. everyone else uses pen tool, but i forgot how to use pen tool properly (quickly) so that method is now for gays.

step 3: (also note that i did this shop a month ago and i do most of my work the same way, but every picture is different and so is method, so this exact way may not work out for you in every situation) well apparently i cut this one into a new layer. so then i used the quickmask and paintbrush to make a selection of the road and foreground area.

step 4: also, i work in a lot of layers and you should too. thats what makes photoshop awesometown. label them so you remember what the fuck each one is. i'll usually keep layers of stuff that isn't touched so i have something to go back too in case of major screwups or if i just don't like the way something turned out. also the snapshot button is awesome, so that you can "save your progress up to certain points. especially good because the history only goes back so far before it starts making it where you can't go back anymore.
anyway, here i went into the levels to make the road more tasty. generally the closer they are the more contrast and crazy its gonna look. you just gotta play with it until it looks good to you most of the time.
