have you guys seen the thing about using an equal length flca from an sn95 for more steering angle? it cures the whole wheel hitting the lca=no angle thing.

I'm sorry, did someone say something? My hearing aide must be going bad...

As you saw (or didn't see), no go tonight.

Got to the last part to put back on....the distributer (I pulled it out as part of the "clean everything out" thing). As I was putting it in, I had this sinking realization.....
I hadn't marked the rotater, and it'd moved from where it was.
Ack! Timing all messed up. Loverly.
GTEAST wrote:SWEET!!! Fox body madness! I have the maximum motorsport rear suspension on mine and it is, so far, great. I'm looking forward to seeing your Blue Oval progress, good luck. I also put the Auburn ECTED lockable rearend in mine because these cars like to spin the rightside tire and kill the clutchpacks. Just my experience.
I'm just gonna get my diff welded for now, since it's not going to be a street car.
When that finally breaks, I'll get a nice LSD.

Well If you're ever in the area I'm up for welding it! Just give me a call when you can.
Also take my old mustang stuff if you want it.

Hey guys, just registered on here. I have been building up a 1990 5.0 for the whole do dorifto deal. Earlier in the thread there was a link to my website. (http://www.drift50.com)

Using a set of standard geometry SN95 tubular control arms yield us a good amount of steering angle. In fact right now the rack is once again limiting travel.

I'm excited to see that there are more fox mustang drifters appearing out there.

The coupes are a bit lighter, but a lot harder to carry tool and spare ties.

Hahahahaha!

Yea, that got posted on DriftSTL a while back.
Actually, I'm wondering if that wasn't the FOERST inspiration for me to get a foxbody to slide. :)

Sadly, no new news on my car.....I just don't know enough about the 5.0 motor to really get any decent work done on it yet.

It just up and stalls at idle, so not sure what the problem is. Going to check fuel filter tomorrow, but between it just being an old, used motor and having at least 2 vacuum lines that I just can't find anywhere on the motor where they'd plug in to, I've no real clue.

Hell, could be the idle control valve or the TPS, I just don't know enough to figure it out. :(

Glad you were inspired by the "skyline" version. :)

As far as getting things running, there are a ton of good books on the 5.0.

Give Amazon a look.

Well, stupid me managed to buy 2 copies of the same damned book...that is, the Haynes repair guide.

Pretty good, but it doesn't have a layout of all the vacuum lines that I'd like.
SO have a Chilton's on order now, as it specifically says that it has that.

Between the two I should be ok.

Update time. I've now got my own timing light, and hope to get the chance to fine-tune the timing tomorrow.
Gutted it a little more today: removed the seats and installed one of the harnesses for fitment. Looks like it'll be pretty easy to mod the stock seat brackets to fit the racing seats.

Will pull our rest of floor carpeting tomorrow, and hopefully get the racing seats and 4-point harnesses that I picked up a couple weeks ago put in.

Also picked up a few things today:
1. Strut brace. Fox-mustang braces are a little more complicated than normal ones. You can't just mount on top of struts and use them to anchor. Will have to drill a couple holes and get some bolts. But once in, will stiffen front frame like a madman.

2. A complete 5-lug swap. Brand new rotors for the front, complete with new bearings. He even packed them with grease for me. Brand new rear axles & drum. For drifting, drums on the back will be just fine for now.
But that's not all! It came with an entire rear end! Complete with a 3.55 ratio diff (stock Fox is 3.23)! w00t! And with the whole rear axle/diff housing, if I ever slide into a wall/curb and tear up the in my car, I'll have a spare ready to go!

Pics tomorrow as I get stuff done.

Well, hit a snag with the seats today, but, here's some pics of the progress:

Engine bay, showing test fit of strut brace. Sadly, it doesn't clear the aftermarket intake manifold, so gotta see what I can do about that.
Also shows the cracked fan I need to pull off & replace.

Gutting, step 1.....rear seats & hatch trim pulled out:

Stage 2, front seats, seatbelts, carpeting pulled out:

Ok, so before anyone goes "That's all you've done?" I gotta admit: I am working really slow.
Mostly just in "I got a few minutes, let's pull out a couple bolts before going out to dinner"

I'm working at such a snail-speed casual pace for a few reasons:
1. It's winter and I have to work outside.
2. It's been UBER-busy lately
3. Kids home from school who want my attention ALL the time...or else want to "help" me work on cars
4. And most of all, I'm working slow because I've not a fucking clue what I'm doing.
;D

Example, the seats......Got the rails off each, and got the stock rails mounted onto new race seats. And *THEN* I realize that I'd forgotten one dimension to check: the width of the mounting holes. The race seats mount the rails 2 inches farther apart than the stock. D'OH!
Image
Easy fix, in theory: just need to make adapter plates and bolt them onto the seats, then bolt rails to adapter plates.
Course, that means finding someone who knows how to cut metal like that, which I don't have the tools for.

But oh well, I got all winter.

And here's the spiffy 5-lug setup I got.....the box holds the diff cover w/ brand new gasket as well as full replacement brake parts & new shoes.
