you opinion on this
this thread was recommended as a possible option for boosting the KA. I'm a little sketchy about the whole idea of boosting a KA, but I have considered it. Read this thread and let me know your opions.
*keep in mind that I'm a poor college student. thus the cheap DET setup.

Re: you opinion on this
My suggestion is to talk to Rob [Garage Battle]. He was planning on turboing his KA and knows a lot about it. He will be able to give you good info. If you do a lot of suspension work, you will be golden to drift anyhow. Just look at hachi bill!Rhoad Racing wrote:this thread was recommended as a possible option for boosting the KA. that's true too. I'd love to have boost, but I think I'm more concerned with handling and performance right now. besides, if I can drift with only 155hp then Im pretty sure I can with over 200.
In light of that....I have another dude looking at buying the Outstanding Honda. If that happens I'll either buy some rims or suspension. I havn't decided yet.

there are plenty of people who know about boosting the KA, including myself. What that guy did in that thread is quite common in the KA-T world. Im about to have that set up in 2 weeks.

I think with the depletion of good quality SR motors, people will be leaning more towards turboing the KA set up. The price of SR's has definitely gone up in the last few years, and undoubtedly now that Nissan has stopped making the SR, the quality of the ones coming over will worsen.
It's definitely a good thing to research, because KA turboing may be the best option over the next few years!

I am going KA-T for the reasons listed above but also getting oil filters, gaskets, etc will be easier too. Its not like a Honda/Acura swap where both engines are sold in the U.S. I'd hate to have to try to source parts for a rb20 ot SR.

those are some very valid points. I'm rapidly becoming a KA-T prospect
I'm going to look into it a little more.
thanks for input guys/gal

finding sr components is rather easy nowadays if u know where to look. oil filters = b13 se-r [sr20de]down_shift wrote:I am going KA-T for the reasons listed above but also getting oil filters, gaskets, etc will be easier too. alot of gaskets are similar.
phase2motortrend sells almost every sr gasket and oil pump/waterpump you can find. they even are carrying RB parts now. but they are still expensive. still not as cheap and easy as KA.
i dont agree with the guy in the link FOERST posted. 4psi on stock fuel might sound good but wait until he has one boost spike, or runs on an extremely hot day. or even a cold one. i think his setup is golden if he were to throw on an FMU...not that i like FMU setups but it would add peace of mind for that one time when something might go awry. FMU's are like $50 on ebay probably. or spend ~$300 more and get some SR injectors (or in his case some 370 topfeeds being that its an SOHC), and an s-afc. (or spend $100 and get just he injectors and hack your MAFs if your an s14)
i dont mind seeing homemade ghetto setups but only if theyre still done right. half assing is still half assing.
and IMO, ka24et is a waste of time unless it's built, or you're really ONLY shooting for low 200s max. i guess i'm just patient enough to where i could swap in a twice cam and then turbo it and get an extra 30-50whp out of the same type of setup.

"roger, boost control, this is wastegate. all is a go, repeat, all is go. fire solenoid when ready."
