I dont know who here has run Road Atlanta before but you should know/or already know, that that track is very technical and takes major balls to go fast on. Now if you have ran at road atlanta chances are it was in a sedan. Well I ran it this weekend In an open wheel Formula 500 car. I gotta say that that shit was the coolest thing I have done in my life. Everything is magnified being out in the open and in such a small car. I was turning 1.3500 lap times which is about 20secs faster Than an ITA CRX. The car was hitting 135-140 on the back straight and I could out brake the Formula Atlantics, Formula Mazdas, Formula Fords, and the Radical C-Sports racers. And that car would stay with them in T-7 and T10-T11. But there is nothing in this world like taking T1 flat at 120-125mph. It took me all day, 2hrs. To build up enough confidence to rip it flat out. That experience was the most rewarding of the day for me. I only spun once(T5) and I could have been a bit quicker but that car had to be raced this weekend so I didnt want to risk wrecking it. The car was pretty twitchy everywhere but taking T1 flat was quite a risk.
The bad part is now I want to get an open wheel car and screw all this other shit. Oh well I hope I get this job im interviewing 4
Moral: If U havent yet get your ass to Road Atlanta and drive a real race track. Youll have so much more respect 4 racing and racers. Especially since this Grand ole track is so damn close.
Moral 2: Dicing with other cars on the limit has no equal.
ohh man, i so have respect to the touring guys that go over 180 sometimes 200mph, but again we're talking about race only Supras, R34's, S15's, NSX's, etc... but fuck man that is sooo fuckin awesome. Anypics or anything? That is some major balls to do man, congrats. What car u got again?
I have helmet cam video whicjh im trying to find a Hi-8 camera to copy it to vhs so i can put it on my computer. No pics though.
I drive a Mazdaspeed Protege. I know its FWD but Im working on getting a drift car.
Yeah dude its unreal. I am really really really lucky to be able to do this stuff. I just wish I had more $$ so I could do it all the time. Im already avoiding a girlfriend so I can spend all my $$ on racing
Wow that sounds awesome:) I wish there were more [and less expensive] opportunities to hit road atlanta. I'm dying to get on that track with my car! We were going to do the bmw cca event in July but after Miami this weekend we are going to skip it and wait until it gets cooler in the fall.
Oh BTW, I found out why the newer racing helmets have those weird strakes and bumps on the top of them. Well my helmets all smooth and round and on the back straight at 130 my helmet started lifting off my head. I switched to a newer helmet next session and it went away. Crazy shit eh.
Glad you had fun Shane. It's always fun to come away from cars and try something different but faster. Now you need to try a Ducati Superbike on RA. All i can say is back in '00 I had a hell of a time trying to get through 10a-b with all the lean angles. I'm sure open wheels are up there but RA makes superbikes tough because of the lean angles. It's showdown time!!!!!

There is a guy that ran 1:40 flat and now has broken 1:39 in his Sti. All he has on it now are brake pads, coil overs and a down pipe. The guy is obviously an insanely good driver. I am not hijacking your thread. It's just that everytime I think of road atlanta I think of how fast that guy is going out there lol.
