I forgot to add that you financially would be best off keeping it if you don't want to lose money. Cause you're clearly not going to get what you have in it back, and I think like they said you'll probably be happier with it. It just depends on what you want to drive and when

Yeah, I've gotten it pretty much ironed out and ready to hit some events. (with some help from great friends.) I just know that I'm always going to be in two worlds with it.

I want to drift. At the moment, that's the reason I have a "project car". I don't know. Maybe I just need to quit being a pussy and gut/cage/strip the thing, beat the shit out of it till it falls apart. Then one day drop an SR20 in it, & officially be exiled from the AE86 community. haha

Sorry to hear your predicament Wes. If you can find somebody to trade a more reliable or driftable car then I'd say do it and get another one later or even let it go. If you can't though, I wouldn't sell it too quick. What wer eyou thinking about getting out of it? What kind of cars are you looking for if you do trade it off??

Not sure really. The reliability has never been an issue for me. Andrew took incredible care of it before selling it to me. It's still got the all of it's original amenities. I'm still running the power steering. And it's still even got all of the A/C plumbing (needs a new compressor though.)

And we've finally gotten it set up pretty nicely. I've got some pretty nice parts on it; clutch kit, high-comp swap, 4-link rear, adjustable panhard rod, etc...

I just know the more I slide it, the more beat up it's going to get. I kind of think it'd be nice to have maybe a clean S chasis to beat on for a while. And if I slammed it into something I could replace it & not weep uncontrollably, like I would with the Corolla.

I would swap it with a 240 if your really wanting to get back into the scene. But I've never owned a corolla so I don't know what I'm missing.

But from a Chad stand point:
240's are easy to replace. A dime, a dozen.
Power potential is greater with a 240.
Parts are generally cheaper.
Parts availability is better for a 240.
And they're pretty easy to drive.

The corolla has nostalgic value to it.
It is the Drift Icon
They're super lite!
Very dependable.
It has a huge following

But overall my opinion is that it's not a car that I'd be interested in. I'll help you all day long if you got something you want to do to it but doesn't give me the butterflies in my stomach to play with it. But don't get me wrong, anything that is gonna be put on the track and given hell (Even if it's a Ford Festiva) is Awesome to me.
But coming from Supra's to S13 SR20's and always having power makes realize how easy things are with the correct amount of power.

When people are talking about rolla's and some "badAss" part that they're wanting to get but it's just to expensive at the moment so they can make 180hp or so, it just kills the whole conversation to me. When it cost like $1000 to make an extra 10-15hp it just doesn't seem logical to me to spend that kinda money unless you're getting another 50+hp or so. Unless your already just about maxxed out in general bolt on power.

I'm just more of a fan of performance over cosmetics or nostalgic value. Even though I'm building a remake of the FOERST low rider truck I had in High School. :roll:

I condone more corolla's being in the family, and especially ones that get occasionally tracked but are super sweet clean dailies :twisted: . Track beaters are where it's at. I need a DD soon.

These two statements made me laugh. AE86's are only very dependable if you spend the time to make them so. I can't tell you how many hours I spent getting my car ready for an event. I know before the event in Memphis (2007) I spent 3 weeks before the event getting the car in order (along with getting Mike and Marlow's cars). Changed nearly every fluid before event (coolant was usually left alone, but I only ran distilled water), replaced front wheel bearings a few times, fixed leaks before they become a problem, etc. There isn't may bolts I haven't turned on an AE86. The only part I can say I haven't seen the inside of is the transmission and I was about to do that before I installed a 20v.
