So I get off the train from Campus, Start walking towords the coffee shop I hang out and park my FC, I spotted a 86. Now I'm all exited, a fellow drifter. Also with the snow and rust up here kind makes short work of the older cars. So seeing an 86 is even rarer then in Atlanta. So I was happy to see one. I go up to the guy getting out, Nice car dude, where do you drift it? And he goes, oh man I don't drift I grip drive it. Now needless to my jaw hit the floor. What the Fuck dude you own and 86 and you don't drift. Thats sac-religious you don't drift with legandery drift car. I asked him how much he payed for it $1000, now thats $1000 Canadian. so like 650 US, I almost puked. I was like get the fuckout of here before I bitch slap you.

maybe he meant he touge drives? on the touge a balance between the 2 skills is needed. Even the drift king uses more grip techniques than drift techniques. the 86 is jus like a miata, it's balance and suspension set up is great for grip but it can also be versitle enough for drift...

the only reason the 86 became a lengendary drift car is car of a cartoon...do i even gotta mention the name?

Actually it was legendary in Japan far before "the" cartoon [cough]fourth stage rocks[/cough]. The cartoon used that as the car because of this. And because 4AGEs own all(piston engines). LOL

hmmm i really dont think so at all. the two are similar in that they are lightweight cars, but the miata uses its small size mostly kensei drifting through corners, when the ae86 uses the accelerator. its unlike any car to date... i thought that was common knowledge. also - the car is popular in the usa because of the cartoon, it was already a legend in jp before the cartoon came out. but as far as the guy who said he used it as a grip car, you should have just laughed at him. ^_^ a guess another person who likes the car but doesnt like how 'popular' its rep is getting so he has to put his own dumb spin on it. i woulda just laughed.

To each his own, I guess. There are plenty of people who think I'm just as nuts for drifting my e46. As long as you're happy at the end of the day doing what you're doing with your car, then more power to ya!

I know of an asian girl who "grip" drives and 86 in scca autox and whiped like most of the poeple in last years natinals, so if that is not strange i dont know what is. O and it was raining and still no slideways from her just more grip??????????????

i look at it this way, if your gripping out an 86, it seems like it would be smarter to buy a good grip car like fc3s or some AWD, why go with FR cars which natually like to slide, and not to mention the one drift car that is renown for its efficiency in gettin the tail out... its like putting bread in the microwave... the toasters gonna do a better job with it.

FCs are great drift cars. I personally think that MR cars are the thing for grip driving. Big go cart touge monster. Grip style yo!
