how come i've seen several comparison articles with the sti and the evo, and the evo almost always wins?

you can compare them all you want-- but it comes down to personal preference. The 4G63 engine has been around for over a decade so there is more availability of aftermarket parts for it-- that sways some people. Out of the box, the evo lacks the amount of power the STi has, but surpasses it in handling. Both of these things can be corrected with aftermarket tuning. What it came down to, at least for me, was reliability and interior and exterior styling. And the fact that I'm a subaru rally fan.

It may win most of the time but youll pay for it in a new tranny in a short amount of time. Evo trannys are glass.
