Here you go...
My family actually has a plantation in CLAXTON, GA.. (we've been there for 200 years!)
We still have cotton and sugar cane there (the cotton fields are leased to Fruit of the Loom), and once a year, my great-great-somethings make syrup.. You can chew on bits of sugar cane and it's.. well.. sugar-y..
