Formula D Round 2 Results

I was curious so looked it up on drifting.com and looks like Samuel Hubinette in the Mopar Viper won again.
Ken Gushi with the Rotora S13 got 2nd (said that was due to a broken axle) and Chris Forsberg in the SR-powered 350Z took 3rd.
Kinda wish Ken would've won, but oh well.

j/k... props to Sam... I guess it's his car, and Mopars participation with the car in general that I disagree with. He sure can drift like hell, with crazy power to back it... so congrats in that respect.

*I wish we could have road tripped this event too!!!
I feel left out, although Import Frenzy seemed to fill the void (LOL).

i'm with you on kinda feeling weird about him winning with the full race prepped car, but he is a good driver too. still doesn't seem quite fair though.

I don't think they should let the viper compete with the rest of the street cars. WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY too big of an advantage. I guarantee that he will win FOERST in EVERY event. it would be more fair if it as a "semi-street legal" viper...........or even a viper with stock frame. I will probably get slammed for my views, but I don't see how a professional tube chassis million dollar corporate sponsored race car can compete side by side with street legal 240sx's in "any" type of racing. just isn't right.

Well I knew this would happen eventually. It seems to me drifting is an open event in Japan. Run what you brung basically. BUt in America everything is bigger and when the manufacturers get behind something then they are going to go all out. I forsee US drifting evolving quickly into classed drifting. Where you have an open class ie Viper GTSR and a fairly stock, ie D1 cars. In America this shit was bound to happen. Its completly fair though based on the rules of Formula D. But I expect that all to change by next year.

Im glad no one is dissing the Viper pilot cause hes a damn good driver We will soon see the true wrath of the Scandanavians though in the drifting world.

We've already seen it in the WRC! Scandinavian drivers own!

I don't doubt Sam's skills, but I do feel like having him compete against hachis is slightly unfair. I hate the corporate whoring of it. Some of these people save their money and bust their ass just to get a chance to compete, while mopar can step in and prepare an incredible car all for free....

No slamming here... I couldn't agree more.
Hubinette is definitely a superb driver/drifter... those of you who saw him at DriftAtlanta can attest. The original regulation for the Formula D series was for the vehicles to be production-models. That carbon chassis is far from it. No doubt Mopar is putting a sh*tload of money into the Formula D series, which is good for the sport (in many way)... at the same time it makes it extremely difficult for the underdogs to compete.

Perhaps Hubinette will win all the Formula D events, and next year some new regulations/classes will be implemented. I remember reading that Alex Pfeiffer and Benson Hsu were all for it from the get-go.

We'll just have to see how things play out, I suppose.

There were all those Japanese pros whos names i cant spell drinking and helping us sing, and there was a bunch of the umbrella girls there being way to hot for us to be hanging out with, but again, that night was all about DA. So the cops showed up at 2 to make sure everyone left promptly...Rich was lying on the ground when they showed up cause he hit his head on the couch or some shit, but it all worked out....The drive home was another story....We drove for almost 2 hours to try and get back to the hotel which was 15 min away. We went through 3 drivers (mia drove like a complete maniac and almost killed us, so Erik drove until he got dick of Ryan throwing gallon things of oil at stopped cars from the bed of the pick-up, and then Ed-o drove who got us home by following the Rotora guys for a long ass time). Also, 24hr mexican food on every corner, I love this city. Friday gets a HUGE A+.

Okay Saturday, the actual event...Did anyone ever tell you Houston is the hottest city in the world? I dont know if thats fact, but goddamn it felt like it. So the FOERST part of the day was just getting things set up, cars and the DA booth and stuff. Drift Baby is now the master work on drift cars guy. He spent all the early day working on Uchi (sp? no idea) D1 awesome S13, in the million degree heat, getting it ready for the pro demos. Practice runs started, the course was nice, a lil small, but everyone was still going super fast. Our guys looked good out there. Got a few rides in chris's car...and things were cool. Before I get into more driving, the rest of forumla d was okay. There was of course a gay car show, and lots of scantily clad women...Jinkx got up on the stage during the model contest and was getting a lap dance from some chick, then Rich slapped him in the head and he couldnt hear. Okay, so then qualifying comes around. Everyone got 3 laps...and then after that they got 3 more. 6 total, then they pick the top 16. Chris, JR, and Pfeifer made it. Tony, Erik, and Ryan Hampton did not. Tony's runs got better and better, but i guess it wasnt enough. Eriks car (toyo's s13) broke like 9 times and he never had a chance with that thing. Samuel Hubinette qualified 1st. So Chris was up against the crazy El Camino FOERST. They go twice, once in front, and once following. The El Camino spun....but those Jap judges LOVED this car, so did all the toothless Texan morons cause it was an unsponsored mullet from Texas, so they made them run again, and Chris put him away. JR went up against one of the S13 guys...Calvin I think....and spun, so he was out. Pfeifer had to run like 3 times to pick a clear winner with another of the S13's, and after all of that he lost, but they were some amazing runs. Chris then went up against the Pac Rim S13 and had 2 more amazing runs, and was moving on to the top 4. Also, Hubinette went up against Rhys in a good match-up, Hubinette was perfect again, ending rhysâ€™s chance for a podium finish. The top four were Chris, Hubinette, Ken Gushi (did awesome all day, broke a bunch of axles too), and the Jasper Performance Supra. Chris was up against the Viper, againâ€¦.the viper is fast, real real real fast. FOERST lap chris followed, the viper jumped on him, Chris had another perfect run, but Hub was already too far ahead and did great also. The 2nd lap Chris led and had another perfect run, with an amazing wide lineâ€¦Hub with his massive speed took a more narrow line and pushed Chris further out and passed him (this isnâ€™t a race AHOLE!) but anyways the Viper won. Gushi then beat the supra. So it was Chris vs Supra for 3rd, and Hub vs Gushi for 1st. Chris vs Supra was probably the best match up of the evening if you ask me. They ran 2 laps and both did good, one did better than the other on each lap, so they made them run again. Chris went nuts, and did amazing on the FOERST lap when he was following, just BAM, right on this guy the whole way. Second lap, Chris had ANOTHER amazing line, nice and deep like the judges wanted, and the dude tried to duck in on him like the viper did, so chris said no way and flung it out the other way, whether that guy was there or notâ€¦.and took the line back and held his position, it was true awesomeness. So he won, yay 3rd place, another podium finish, everyone congratulate him damnit. Gushi broke his axle against Hub, so Hub won again, Gushi 2nd, and Chris 3rd. We drank some yuengling, Tony stole everyones trophies and claimed he won it all. Drift Baby crashed a golf cart into the one Falken car, oops. Then everyone cleaned up and packed up. All the drivers and crew and everybody were amazing, they cheered for everyone and congratulated everyone, like everyone is friends. Except Rhys. Then there was Sat nightâ€¦.

Wow, Sat night. Umm okay, so we had another VIP party at some other club. It was fine, we drank, there were a LOT of asians, which was pretty cool. We danced and acted gay, and then JR and Mia danced on the roof and 2pm came and we were being asked to leave. On the way out JR pulled down this huge mirror from the wall and the bouncer flipped out cause he didnâ€™t know who did it. Weâ€™re outside, Rhys is trying to drown this girl with his tongue and I told him â€œWow Rhys, thatâ€™s a lot of tongueâ€ and told him how good his shirt looked. So we eventually get back to the hotel for the after after party. FOERST Tony, myself, and two random people ransack this unused room and started throwing soda all overâ€¦.then came the madness, we meet up with everyone again, and go up to Gushiâ€™s room, a lot of people were already in there, we went in there for 13 seconds before I think Pfeifer or Hampton grab the fire extinguisher and spray it in the room, so everyone runs into the hallway, Tony grabs it from them and runs down the hallway spraying it. The fire alarm goes off (its 4am) and everyone runs like hell outside. A few people take off in Chrisâ€™s truck, others just sat there. Anyways, everyone in the building had to evacuate, and 2 fire trucks, and a few cops showed up later. They were going to try to find out who caused the ruckus. There was crap everywhere, the elevator got messed up, beer everywhere, crazy. Everyone managed to find a place to sleep, and the whole thing blew over. People left on Sunday, no big deal, I cant believe how amazing this weekend was. Houston always = fun.

good write up Drew!! sucks you couldn't go...

I don't know, it is kind of unfair with the whole car power ratio, but hell look like Ueno and his AE86 (yes yes i know u heard it before), its all about the driver and how well he can control his car. The Car comes in 2nd, its all about the driver and with Sam behind the wheel of a monster car its gonna be a wild ride.

But it does suck that a full company is supporting behind the viper drift car while 98% of all the guys that compete in events have no sponsers at all. Ohwell, it will change next year i bet. I need to see fuckin nissan and mazda back behind a few full sponser cars, maybe some S15's and such.

thats how the stock frame is set up on a competition coupe viper. and those are production cars.

but with that being said, tube chassis cars shouldnt even be allowed to battle. thats just too much.

put that guy against ueo and ueo will rip him apart.
