Nope... parking lot outside my work. In broad daylight.
Also, within eyeshot of my desk.

I'm really not worried about anyone fucking with it.

Can someone tell me what a bad starter might sound like? Some of you may have heard my car do this before at events, where I go to start it, and it is like it turns over half-way, and stops with a crazy mechanical stopping noise before it starts. It has done this for a while, but only sporadically, and it always cranks back up 2nd try. The last three times I've pulled the car out of the garage, I almost wasn't able to get it back in because it just keeps doing this... and the noise is getting way worse when it doesn't turn over.

I'm thinking it is the starter, but I'm not 100% sure, and I would like to be a little more certain before I start throwing parts at the car to try and fix it.

On a funny side note, the mechanical lock broke on the car the other day. Keyless entry has long-since stopped working, so I was locked out of my car. I had to unbolt the (pointless) rear strut brace and crawl into the car through the trunk and rollcage to open the door from the inside.

bad solenoid on the bendix drive maybe. when you hit the key the bendix drive pops out and engages in the flywheel turning over the engine, then it retracts when you let off the key. that's typically what goes bad on a starter

I'd like to hear the sound in person.

Yay! I've been reading up on it a bit, and it looks like this was due for replacement around the 100K mark. So it's overdue either way.

As time permits (work is inSANE right now), I'm going to start getting the car back to driving-order so I can daily it more. The truck is too goddamn expensive to drive downtown 6 days a week. The oil sensor in the pan is going bad too, so I need to replace that... general tune-up shit since the car has been sitting for so long... and of course - figure out the clunking noise from the diff area.

Yeah It sounds like a starter. Also we took the oil sensor out of the pan to put that after market gauge deal in
