by the way, you and scott had some nice runs out there, hope we can all slide again sometime soon!
I agree....thanks Adam. Even though I was understearing like a mad man (no ebrake) I still learned a great deal. It's was well worth the money!
Everyone did really well and you and scott wiped those FB's around like they were toys. It looked good.
I look forward to sliding around with guys again soon. The next event can't come soon enough :)

Thanks Chris. The 7's are pretty much just expensive toys to us, mine not so expensive. Yeah i understand the whole e-brake failure, u should try a fient w/ a clutch kick, Nice method. And we all had to start some where. Look at me i started at formula drift the day i finished my car, ended up hitting the wall, and putting it into the gravel trap. Keep on breaking it loose and you while be comboing all the time.

true. I was trying to teach myself how to clutch kick but finally grasp it until Heat 4. oh well....still had a blast.

Also, I've been considering on buying a FB for a track car. One of many I'm considering actually. I love my 14, but it's my daily driver and if I throw it into a wall......well, I'm F*CKED! I spend way to much time traveling back and forth to SC for that kinda risk. Anyway, my question to you is.....IYO how does it drift. Is it difficult to get the back end out? I've heard that Hachi drivers have some difficulty getting them sideways.
Perhaps you could give me some insight.

Well this car is most likly harder to drift than a corrolla, they have the same exact suspension except for one main item. fb/sa's have a watts link, improperly dessigned one so it binds the rearend during travel, as opposed to a panhard bar. The plus to the fb/sa's is the weight distribution, w/ just pro kit springs i had 50.8 front weight 49.2 rear, and 50/50 cross weight w/ a full tank and me in the car. Total weight of 2380 me out of the car,and just over 2500 w/ me in it. Thats w/ a bar and turbo engine. I would not really reccomend the 7 you really need to be mechanicaly inclined to stay in tune w/ the setup. My engine is pretty stout being that its only being run on 6lbs of boost when it was designed for 8lbs from the factory. I have a problem w/ trannys because i use a n/a transmissions designed for 180fly horse, and my old motor dynoed at 230 to the wheels, and this motor has more power no dyno yet. I do get trannys for 50 bucks , and whole engines for 800. Total cost i have in so far is under 8k. Thats 2 engines, 4 trannys, and parts car. Good thing is i have a 80 model so i don't have to worry about emissions.
I think w/ codys style setup you could really ripp it up, my G/F has a 97 240 all stock auto i could drift that 1st time i drove it, very forgiving car. The fb/sa very quick to come around on you, loves to snap oversteer smaller wheelbase so everything happens alot faster, but w/ the setup we have they are the most fun for dollar . Oh and i got the car for free

mmmm....interesting. That's certainly something to think about.
perhaps I'll get another car as a daily driver and put the 14 on track duty 8).

You can always put a V8 in one....

Seriously though, I really like the way FB's drive. The 50/50 weight of the stock rotory is actually a major hinderance though. The do take a good bit of suspension tuning to get to drive right. I went through 5 alignments before I was happy with a setup. The rear sway bar comes right out and helps a good bit, and the nose is so long, and you sit so close to the rear tires, that I think it's fairly easy to control. It's certainly not as forgiving as a 240 though, as I learned this weekend. You do have to fix the suspension bind though. There are many ways around it, you just have to put in the wrench time.

$800 for a nicely running FB, vs. $2500 for a running 86 in fair shape. It's worth it IMO

Not to step on your toes Rob but i couldn't disagree more w/ you. I think the 50/50 weight and the engine behind the front strut towers is the best thing going for the 1st gen. My car being very basic, and only able to set toe and caster(min caster 3degrees), still is very tame to throw around when get use to the speed of the rotation. Scott's car we setup w/ max caster, good amount of camber, and slight toe in, and as you can tell its very comfortable to drift. I think the big heavy V8 is what made you need to do alot of suspension tuning. W/ a properly setup engine combo it can very very fast. I have no problems laying down the smack to almost anything that comes along in atlanta. As for scotts engine, that thing will make you feel dizzy from the speed.. 350 wheel horse at 12lbs in a 2500lbs car is freakin insane to drive.
My car as it sits was faster through deals gap than a group of bikes i went up there w/. It was also faster in the long 3rd gear corners then the bikes, they could only pull on me in the straights, not by much, but would be unable to match speed in the corners. Thats w/ the rear swaybar set kinda tight, just imagine it taken off.

I think most of my problems relate to the fact that my suspension has no upper bearing for the strut spring, and the fact that the LCA is moved back 8mm, causing alignment issues. I haven't drifted either of the FB's, but I have drifted our club car and it is a nice feeling. I think most of it was the weight of the car, but I can't say for sure. All I know is I keep hearing that drift cars need some front bias, so I passed it along. As for the mountains, we'll have to go at it when the car's finished, although I'm not sure it's going to be quite the same. I do know that the last time I went up, there was only one bike on the mountain that was faster than myself, and he was a pro rider that runs the Gap 5 times a week, I have also run down 996 TT's and Z06's in a Miata. Driver skill is 98% of it.

Regardless, I can't fault how the FB's were doing this weekend, good stuff guys. I was really imporessed with the cars and your driving. I can't wait to get mine finished.....
