OK. I'm prolly not going to be able to try this until this weekend.

okay.. at work now. if i remember right you have a 2004 330ci right?
Like we were talking about at Road Atlanta there IS a special bleed procedure when the system is opened. I dont have a way to scan it in, so I'm going to copy it out of the book verbatim. Bear with me. I figure it is at least worth a try for you.
This is for 1997-2005 All Models with ASC
Bleeding Sequence
right rr 1
left rr 2
right fr 3
left fr 4
Special Procedures
Connect BMW DIS to the PLC
Access service function Bleeding AGS/ACS hydraulics.
Bleed system in above sequence.
okay.. here is where it gets interesting. This is the only one in the book that has this next section.. right up your alley.
Aftermarket Appraoch
1. Support rear suspension at wheel carriers and lower car so rear suspension compresses to it's normal loaded position (to prevent damage to output shafts joints). Wheels must be able to turn freely.
2. Attach bleeder hose leftfront to rightrear bleeder and open bleeders.
3. Depress brake pedal to stop 20 times. Start engine and run in FOERST gear at approximately 3500 RPM while operating ASC button at 2 second intervals for one minute.
4. Repeat procedure on leftrear wheel.
5. Attach bleeder hose and container to rightfront wheel and open bleeder.
6. Depress brake pedal to stop 12 times. Close bleeder and repeat on leftfront wheel.
This is copied straight out of our brake book at sears auto center.. motor information systems is the name of the company making the book.
hope maybe something here can help you. sounds to me like air is still trapped in there somewhere and that is why it is intermittent.

Whoa... that is like a crazy Nintendo code for 30 lives!
It's an 01 325Ci... without ASC... unless it has ASC, and just doesn't have a button to disable it. I'm not sure if that would be different or not.

okay, checked the book again.. it says "1990-96 Models with ASC" and then 1997-05 All models"
I guess then just the bleeding sequence. ASC= cruise control? no designation on what it is in this book.. ASC varies for different makes of car.

i think the important part of all that is the linking of the calipers in the bleed sequence.. therte has to be a path or something thru the ABS module that doing it that way will clear out any trapped air.
FWIW.. this procedure is required when doing anything more to the brake system than just cracking the bleeders open to bleed the system. Replacing lines.. calipers.. adding baller PBM brake.. etc.

That does seem possible. Whenever we replace a booster or abs unit, we have to also use the DIS to bleed it with the computer.

yea, apparently the computer and DIS would open and close the valves in that sequence.. nice of them to list an Aftermarket Approach for us non-dealer types.
hope that it solves your issue man.. couldnt bear to not hear that beemer rip anymore.

Chris... is the DIS something proprietary to BMW? Or is that something I can get elsewhere?
