So I've been on this Ural kick for the last couple of weeks now, these things are so awesome. If you haven't heard of them, they are a Russian company that formed during WW2 (I believe 1941) and basically made their own version of the 40's BMW's that Germany was using in the war. They made stuff for years, kinda went quiet, but just recently started making stuff again and marketing it way more to the US. They're incredibly simple with prehistoric technology, but are made like a tank and pretty much run forever. Every bike is also hand made to your specs in Russia (no fancy assembly lines or anything) and then shipped over after you pick out what you want (and they start for like $7k brand new). They're kinda ugly (yet still awesome and war-time looking) stock, but I came across these slightly modified concepts over the weekend and want one so bad.

Most of their models come with sidecars from the factory too which is kinda rad (wouldn't totally want one for myself, but they do look sweet).

My other obsession is the new Triumph line, I'd also happily take any of their new "classic" models (the Scrambler, Thruxton, or Bonneville).

Funny you mention the Urals. When they did the cycle across Vietnam episode on Top Gear Hammond had one and immediately after I was done watching it I started looking for one and found they were nigh impossible to find in the states.

That's pretty cool they're starting to send them over here. I really dig the styling on them a lot.

The older ones definitely have that reputation but I've heard the new ones are pretty sturdy from the stuff I've been reading. They're still slow, simple and behind the times technologically, but that's what everyone seems to love about them.
