Yes, Z32s aren't traditionally drift cars. They are heavy, parts are relatively expensive to fix when they break, and they are harder to find cheap than most of the mainstream cars.

I got mine really cheap, a year later the motor went out, and I rb25 swapped it. Since then, the car has become much easier to slide and handle in general. I found places to get parts cheap and just kept going with it, and it has turned into a decent drift car. The rb25 lowered my roll center quite a bit, and my weight distribution feels a lot better as well. Also, as opposed to all VG30 builds, my car is really easy to work on. My old VG took huge amounts of time to do simple things to... the RB cut that all down, and I can keep the motor running reliably without all the constant problems my VG had.

Theres my Z rant. In hindsight for the money I have dumped into my car, I could have a fully built 240, I've never denied that... which is why I usually steer people away from trying to build a Z32 for drifting.

you say the weight distribution with the rb is better? how comes, i dont know the weight of the engine, but think the VG must be a bit lighter, because its a V6? and its 3 cylinders shorter than the rb

have you blown the vg, or just swapped it?

My old VG threw a rod, and subsequently destroyed everything around it. The major difference is that the RB sits way lower than the VG. My VG almost touched my strut tower bar... the RB sits a good 4+ inches below it. That translated to a much lower roll center and made the car much more stable to slide.

btw. maybe you can answer the question, if the RB and VG gearboxes are the same? have you changed the box aswell?

because i was thinking of going for a Z32 gearbox in my s14, but the rb25 box conversions (and the boxes) are cheaper. Someone here said they are the same, but i dont think so?

They are not the same. The VG gearbox has the shift linkage which goes in from the arm behind the transmission (kinda remote shifter). The rb one goes straight in like an SR. For my application, I actually bolted my VG gearbox to the rb bell housing. This allowed me to use my stock trans cross member and drive shaft, and the VG gearbox bolts right up to the RB bell housing with no problems. The gearing and size of them are similar, the major difference is how the shifter goes in.

ah cool, that helped me a lot, thanks. because i didnt want to swap the Z32 box into my s14 because the shift stick or however its called, is not in the center anymore, and i dont like that it will be right next to the hand brake in 2nd gear.

so the internals are the same? because i heard of some braking the rb25 boxes on their S14´s but never heard of a broken VG-box and we have got some very powerful ones around here?

As far as strength goes I'm not sure, I didnt do a ton of research about the rb25 gearbox once I found out I didn't need to use it. I know rb26 guys use rb25 transmissions pretty regularly, but I never really looked into the strength comparison.

I has a facelift now! i think the lithuanian guy who repaired the car put some halogen diffusing panel lenses on it before he sold it to me cause i saw about 25meters, now its xenon like till horizon
