I drive an 87 MkIII Turbo. I need to have my diff overhauled pretty bad, so I haven't really been able to do much dry yet. My diff just kinda decided when it wants to be limited...it really is like drifting an open diff car with like random LSD helping it. But in the rain, it's pretty dick. I'll let you know how it does when I get the diff overhauled.

But from the few drifts I have done dry, I never had a problem with the stock horsepower/torque. I'm planning on building another. My target's 300-350rwhp.

Just pull the diff out, drain it, pull the back plate, clean it out really good with some brake cleaner or something to break throught the cake build up, let it dry, Put new fluid in, put it all back together, put it in car and drive it.

In summary, it's probably just old gear oil. I would change out the 240 gear oil about once a year. And I had the same VLSD the whole time I had my 13. And it was a used Silvia diff.

The only problem is S13 LSD is viscous....MkIII is clutch-type. I dunno if that trick will work with a CTLSD

Change the shims (thicker) to get more engagement of the clutch

I might try doing that. I'm, hopefully, going to be getting a garage in my apartment complex, and picking up another supra. This one supposedly has a good diff. I'll swap that one in, and then maybe give rebuilding the one in my car now a try.

On the other hand...I think the 90+ Mk3's had Torsen LSDs...might try that.

I have some questions though:

1) What all would I need to replace? Just the washers and clutches?
2) Can I get the parts from someone BESIDES Toyota?
3) Are the thrust washers basically little flywheels?
4) Are shims and the thrust washers the same thing?
