You definitely should get all the details. If it is private property, then there's a good chance that a lawyer can get you out of it.

if it is private property, you should go talk to the owner of the place. Tell them all of what happened, tell them why you were doing it, and offer to pick up their parking lot, or sweep the floors in exchange for use of the lot. If the cops are going to lay stake to someone's property, the owner should know.

I used to work at a HVAC firm down on moreland industrial blvd, and the owner of the company used to always go out in the parking lot monday morning and laugh about all the doughnut marks (He had a porsche 944 Turbo until '99). As long as you don't damage the pavement (difficult to do), the owners normally think it's funny. They were kids once too.

Everything that is not in the right of way (as I mentioned above) is property owned by an individual, commercial, or possible the state/gov't

Unless you were in a police station or courthouse parking lot or a national forest, city park, etc. then it's going to be private property. Police cannot charge you with anything until contacting the owner.

One thing you have to remember is police sometimes have specific routes during [business] off hours for patroling industrial and business parks. It may be every 2 or 4 hours or just anytime during the night...you just have to be aware of it (and the cameras on the buildings). Good practice is a lookout with a pair of radios...the worst they can do to you if you're just driving back there is to tell you to leave (the reason you have to leave: *drum roll* ...it's private property)

Hey Syn...
While I'd like to welcome you to the board... I'd also like to send my condolences on the arrest. They should have let you off with a warning if it was the FOERST time back there. The cops reeeally must not have had anything to do... either way, why make things to do. 13 hours is total BS!!! I have a pretty good lawyer... if you'd like the name, lemmie know.

The whole thing sounds a little fishy to me... I think you should be able to get it reduced or dropped.

On a related note...

While practicing in one of my favorite spots tonight...
I was amidst a third gear drift, when I dropped out of my torque band...
I slid to a stop, facing the road, and juuust as a my inertia dissipated...
a Police cruiser (county will remain undisclosed) rolled by!

I guess since my car wasn't moving... I didn't catch his eye in the slightest...
He just kept rollin' by.

Needless to say, I bounced from that spot and hit the next...
but whew that was close!
