I think maybe as they get more comfortable it wont seem so cheesy. I could only imagin being in their shoes, knowing your trying to follow the 'top gear' standard.
Prolly cant be done,....right away at least.
surprising to me at least,.. tanner foust was the only dude i didnt seem to mind. Plus i guess subconsciously i know that he is very knowledgeable about what he's talking about, and didnt just study his lines before the shoot.
the two other guys,.. and all of their chemistry has sold me yet
awesome show tho!

all these guys get coached which makes sense. theres a scene in the lambo segment where Tanner is seen looking down to the center console at his note cards. I felt Rut was the best natural host.

Other than Rut.. they need people that are truly comfortable in front of the camera.
That is the reason, I think, why TGUK was so fluid and successful.. the personalities complimented each other on camera and there was that nice mesh that kept things going so you would watch even if you didn't care about cars.
Rachel doesn't like cars or cares for them.. but she loved BBC's Top Gear because of the personalities.
I think Rut has the personality.. especially as the NASCAR guy during all the races and stuff.
He just needs people that will play off his personality and the other guys.
Leave the race car driving to the Stig.. you don't really need a race car driver on the show to make it credible.

i agree with the personality bit. don't know tanner personally, but in front of a camera, he's painfully uncomfortable with himself.

I am going to tell you guys something that not many people know about me.
I have never seen a full episode of Top Gear (UK). Now... before people jump down my throat like "YOU WHAT?!?!"... I have seen segments on the internet - but never a whole show. The only 'challenge' I've seen was the redneck one in abalambala. Even though I haven't seen a full episode - I am aware of the charisma of each host and how they are strengthened as a group.
That being said...
I enjoyed the US Top Gear. Kind of a lot. Maybe because I'm not really comparing it to the UK counterpart? IDK.
The scene in the carwash where they talk about the car was kinda forced. The music sucked... and the crowd looks DUMB in the studio... but other than that -
I think Rutledge is awesome, it was entertaining, and I will watch it again. I think they will get better with time.
Maybe now I will even take it upon myself to check out some full episodes of the UK version.

he's like that in real life too that's why I don't like him. its like he tries to hard not to say anything that would remotely offend anyone ever so he just sounds like a total cornball. don't get me wrong he's a nice dude and he always chatted it up with my at FD but he's a total dork.

Just to put things in perspective...
http://www.streetfire.net/video/top-gea ... 380787.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Watch 5-10 minutes of that and see if you're as impressed with TGUK back then as you are now

Also, you got to put more perspective in, that was TGUK's FOERST episode using the format they pioneered. TGUSA is starting off on TGUK's 10 years of experience, trial, and error to jump off from. TGUK didn't have someone else to copy.
Also Andy, def watch TGUK and see how its done. They have beautiful cinematography and sound.
