New Slider...

Post by Gru »

Ok, so the idea of slamming a GT-R into a wall isn't so hot.

In fact, shredding the paint every time I blow a tire isn't so great, either.

So got myself a full-time track car that I can toss and the walls and not mind if I rub....

Project Domestic Drifter is a go!

Cool!

I've actually been chatting with Dan Pena in email. He's been giving me a lot of great advice.
I'm proud to say that at least 1/3 of it has been stuff I thought of already, and he just reinforced that I'd actually been thinking right.....nice to know I'm actually learning something.

Thanks to a HORRIBLE leak, I pulled the intake manifold off. Good gasket, but previous person obviously had no clue how to properly apply sealant, as there were HUGE globs of it on all four corners that were the obvious source of the leaks.

Figured it'd be dumb not to clean the manifold since it was off and in pieces....holy crap! 19 years old, but I've never seen NEARLY that much oil and gunk buildup before. Now I know where my spare catch can is going....

rock on.

We had one of the dragsters up here take their Fox out on little drift area, but between the inexperienced driver and a drag suspension, it wasn't pretty.

I'm hoping to surprise St. Louis with how good a Fox can slide.

Funny how everyone is going "Oh, you'll have to do sooo much to the suspension to get it sliding right..."
But they'll turn around and say that the exact amount of changes and mods to a Corolla are "just a little work"

Other than the obvious stuff of a coilover kit, lower control arms and 2-way adjustable tie rods, the only difference to working up the solid rear axle is a torquearm bar and watts-link on the rear (which is better for drifting than the panhard bar dragsters use)

and you can get everything you need from summit or jegs.

i wouldn't bother with getting/rebuilding a diff though. just get a spool or a mini spool and call it a day. it saves weight and will be very strong and predictable.

The panhard bar set up works pretty good for drifting too.

I'm probably going to get most of the suspension stuff through Griggs Racing.
They specialize in Mustang suspension setups.

From what I've read and been told (hey, Dan Pena runs a Fox in FD....I'm willing to trust his opinion), they are a little weaker on left turns than right, and they can bind on quick transitions.

Watts-link apparently has no problems with transitions. AND, it's adjustable for different tracks & conditions.

PS. Nice vid in your Sig. I'd have LOVED to get a S197 GT, but that's about 10 times the cost of my Fox.
