5spd swap and light flywheel

Working on my 5spd swap for the s13, (finally)... I was thinkning while its all taken apart why not put a light flywheel in it. I have heard lots of rumors abotu light flywheels failing, but i have also heard that a good one is just as safe as an OE flywheel. Can anyone shed light on this for me? I was looking at the 11lb fadanza. What do you guys think? Any good brands that are not super pricey? Also would you recomend a shatter blanket for the tranny if i do go with a lightweight one?

For the money the ACT Prolite flywheels are the best thing around. IMO you should stay away from the aluminum flywheels.

the only thing i don't like about the fadanza is the starter ring is pressed onto the fly. they are made of two different matterails and heat and cool in diffent rates. so the ring can get lose and drifting builds a lot of heat. and drifting an underpowered car put iven more heat into it. i have a nismo for my sr but they don't make on for the ka. if you could find a chrome moly that is what i would suggest.

can you even get a prolite for the KA? Also why would you recomend chromoly over alum? Just curious. Other than teh starter ring.

I know its not ACT or anything but what do you guys think of this setup? Who is XTD? are tehy just ebay?

never used them before, but for the price i would think it can't be that great of stuff. but for the price it may be worth trying.

I have just heard horror stories about flywheels exploding and tearing shit up bad... Is this something i need to consider? Or are they really rare or urban legends?

i have seen more spec presure plates then flywheels. but it can happen and your not easy on it and it is your leg so spend money in the right places.

yea, true dat. I will just hold off an use the stock flywheel. and get a new exedy o something clutch kit.

never had 1 issue with a fidanza flywheel on the last 3 cars i've had them on, the 240 being the hardest beaten. if it'll hold up to lots of clutch kicks with a full faced clutch over the course of 3 years then i believe it's a pretty trustworthy product.

thats good to hear, I have been reading and the only one that they talk about being exposion proof is the exedy and thats to 15000 rpm, but they dont make it for the ka and its also like 600 bux.

I will prolly just get the stock flywheel resurfaced and get an OE clutch kit. I may be dwelling on this way too much, i just have seen one to many flywheel failure videos.

The ebay flywheel looks very similar to the ACT. As far as the Fidanza, I just don't understand why you would use a pressed on flywheel when you can get chromemoly that is just as light. There have been some cases of Fidanzas coming apart. Maybe they have all been sorted out. Maybe they are perfectly safe. I personally don't want to take the chance of being an example.
