You could give Simple Digital Systems a try. From what I have read they are just about the easiest standalone ECU to use, and they are very effective. As well as they are relatively inexpensive. Just a thought, I am not sure of the website but I am sure just typing it in would bring it up. They have a few different models for different engines (ex: I4, V6, V8 etc.) Thats what I plan on using when I get my car near finished. I believe the ECU is about $995, but they seem to work very well from what I have read review wise.

Motec is the only stand alone if you are serious about your car the rest is just kiddie bullshit and if you say its to expensive then you shouldnt be building a car that would need stand alone managment. they can be had for cheaper used.

Yes, Motec is the shit, but very expensive. I would go with the Power FC for what you want to do.

Motec is the only way to go, They arn't that bad in price. Dont get a fully enabled version. You have to pay to play. If you can't build your own harness then shouldn't have stand alone, and go back to the sand box where you belong. :P

i believe the AEM has hit the shelves for the SR, but i haven't looked recently. TEC is a kickass system and i know several people who run them on other models of cars with great results. i run a power FC and it's always been great. the beauty of it is no rewiring everything and all of your stock functions still work  . i plugged it in and it ran good enough to drive for a few days then take it to get tuned later, right off the basemaps. if you get the D-Jetro version you can eliminate the airflow meter as well which is a nice feature. really just boils down to what your overall plan is for the car. if it will remain on the street or as a basic setup i completely recommend the FC.

and zach... i had the SDS on the conquest. Don't waste your cash on it. you'd be better off with an AFC and an MSD box for timing. my car never ran right with that system even after lots of time on the dyno trying to tune it.

Well, thats good to know Erin. I had heard good things about it, and figured it might be a good standalone for the price. I'll keep that in mind when it comes time to find an ECU :D

honestly if you want a budget setup then go with a megasquirt, at least that has a PC interface to tune with. the SDS works, but it's a huge ordeal to get it set up right and tuned well. you only have the handheld tuner with it too, unless they've recently changed that, which makes it take twice as long to tune because you have to keep flipping back and forth between screens which will cost you money at the dyno (street tuning takes forever and a day if you try that route). it leaves a lot to be desired as far as fine tuning the car as well. i would never use it again for a daily driver car, maybe for a track only setup.

Alright, sounds good. I am still figuring out what kind of motor I am going to put in the corolla I just bought last weekend. I am thinking either blacktop or silvertop 20v or a 4agze, I am really leaning towards a 20v though. We'll see, but thanks for the good information on the ECU's.
