I'm really sorry to hear about your unstable hybrid.<<heart monitor beeps>> I know kinda how it feels. <<beep beep>> One night I was just taking a nice casual drive to a friend's house (back when I had the AWD Talon) when the car <<beep! beep! beep!>>went "pop" and all of the gauges died. I was just driving normally and didn't know what had happened <<slower beeps>> but when I saw the steady trail of oil that followed my car off the road, I knew that was it. <<Flatline______________________________>>

My timing belt broke and took the engine with it. The guy behind me pulled over to check on me. He said that a big fireball shot out the back. All I know so far is that you had to be towed but I really hope that you aren't as bad off as I was. It was over a year before I got another car, but it was a WRX so whatever waiting period was worth it to me. So I guess the moral of the story is...

Things get better... and oh yeah, fuck the 4G63.

Yes, we did tow the car out of the mountains, but it was still running!!!! When we pulled over it was completely out of oil [if anyone knows how 4 quarts can disappear in a week without a trace, let me know!] and it sounded like the pistons were slapping. We refilled her with oil, thanks to an awesome oil run by Mike and Ron, and drove her for a bit before deciding to let her rest and get towed home so as not to inflict any damage.

I think she'll be all good once she's checked out. And if it's major, at least the bottom end can be rebuilt nice and tough.

yup, we're all hoping for the best and i guess my plan for now is to call eagle in the morning and see about getting it up there for them to check it out. if i have to, i will build up the entire bottom end and make it even meaner, but it would be kinda nice if it's just the rod bearings or something simple like that.

Codysan, Eagle is just a machine shop. They can probably listen to it and tell you what they think it is, but they won't pull the engine and out of the car. They're strictly a machine shop... If you have a garage at your disposal, I'd pull the oil pan off of it and take a look at the rod bearings and crank. If it turns out that the crank looks fine try putting a new set of rod bearings in it and see if the knocking goes away. The torque requirements for the rod bolts is 30 ft lbs. It'd be cheaper to try that and see if it behaves (40 - 60 dollars) vs. pulling the engine and rebuilding it (1500+ easy).

I just checked on Nico. It's 28 - 33 ft lbs for the rod bolts. So 30 ft lbs. is a good number to go with.
