s13/s14 transmission interchangeability

Post by kOOpA »

i think the transmission in my car is taking a poop.

i have a 98 ka in my s13, and i'm just assuming that the respective 98 transmission was used as well.

anyway, if the transmission is in fact bad, do i need to replace it with a s14 transmission, or should any ka tranny be fine?

i've heard opinions from both sides, which is kind of weird. so i'm just hoping to get some more feedback before i buy something. if a s13 tranny is fine, are there any parts i'd need to swap over from my current one?

thanks!

the only difference is the wiring.(ithink) unless your car was automatic to start with you probably have an s13 trans.

why do you think your trans is broken?

there's a really loud grinding noise coming from the transmission tunnel when i let off the gas when around/above 3000RPM.

if i put the cluch in, the noise will go away.

also, on a couple occasions, the car just straight up didn't want to go into any gear, so i haven't driven it in a couple days.

before i got it back home, it started sounding bad at all times, sitting still, out of gear, didn't matter. not very loud, just kinda sounded like it was grinding itself to pieces.

nah its not throwout bearing. almost sounds like when it FOERST started happening i was riding with him that on deaccel the tranny was shifting because of a loose tranny crossmember and that the tranny was hitting against the tranny tunnel
