2500HD Lighter Outlet Broken?

Post by andysapp »

About a month ago I plugged my converter into one of the two lighter outlets in my '06 2500HD to use my computer. It worked for a little while... then the converter shut off. I plugged it into the 2nd outlet just to the right of it, and it worked... but now nothing plugged into the outlet on the right will work.

I checked the fuses, and they seem fine.
Any ideas?

Trying to search for shit online about trucks is SO stupidly difficult.

While I'm thinking about it... one of my Hellas just went out randomly too. I thought it was the bulb... so I bought new ones. No dice. That probably shorted out somewhere... and I REALLY don't want to take all that shit apart to find where.

Anyone had any similar experiences with Hella 500's doing that?

From the lights, to the relay, relay to the switch, relay to the battery.

so the 500s shouldnt have anything to do with the lighter since it is its own system....

you seem to have 2 problems....lighter and the 500s.
with the 500s, you used their wire and relay?

I agree... separate malfunctions. I did use Hella's wire and relay. The driver-side light still works fine. The pass-side doesn't.

I really don't want to take all that shit apart again, but I'm probably going to have to. If I do, I'll prolly throw another two lights on that bar while I'm at it.

Word up, buddy!

I think I figured out the lighter jack. I looked in there tonight with a flashlight, and it looks like the plastic piece in the back that allows the metal end to seat against the contact fell out. I think I'll try and swing by Chevers and pick up a new one.

Thats pretty common with those jacks, especially if you are constantly plugging in something. I would wire up the power inverter into the trucks wiring somewhere instead of plugging it into the jack. Just mount it and run the wires. Free's up one more jack for any other accessories.
